Caravel Group Acquires India's International Maritime Institute

The Caravel Group, owners of Hong Kong-based Caravel Group and Fleet Management, has acquired India’s International Maritime Institute (IMI) in Noida, near New Delhi, for an undisclosed amount.

Established in 1991, IMI specializes in pre-sea training for cadets. The acquisition aligns with Caravel Group’s strategy to address the maritime industry’s challenge of attracting and developing young talent. The group has stated its commitment to maintaining IMI’s legacy while enhancing its curriculum, faculty development, and career placement programs to support student success.

Angad Banga, Chief Operating Officer of Caravel Group, emphasized the evolving nature of the shipping industry, influenced by digitalization, automation, and sustainability. He highlighted IMI’s role in equipping seafarers with the necessary skills to meet these changes.

Utilizing IMI's Capabilities

Caravel Group plans to utilize IMI’s capabilities to enhance training for its global workforce of 28,000, ensuring seafarers and onshore professionals remain updated on industry advancements. The institute will continue its pre-sea training programs while introducing specialized courses in emerging maritime technologies, alternative fuels, and sustainability-focused operations.

He reiterated that integrating IMI into the group would provide maritime professionals with a high-quality education and career development opportunities.
