The vessel, constructed by Seatrium AmFELS, is 96% complete and will support the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project, the country's largest approved offshore wind project.

The vessel’s construction utilized over 14,000 tons of U.S.-sourced steel, with nearly 10,000 tons supplied by steel producers in Alabama, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

According to Dominion Energy's progress report, the CVOW project, located 27 miles off Virginia Beach, has reached 50% completion and is on track for a late 2026 finish. So far, 16 transition pieces have been installed for the project's planned 176 wind turbines. Additionally, the first 4,300-ton offshore substation has been delivered to Portsmouth Marine Terminal.

Bob Blue, Chair and CEO of Dominion Energy, emphasized the significance of the project for the U.S. offshore wind industry, noting that it is generating employment and contributing to economic growth. According to the company, the project has created 2,000 direct and indirect jobs and generated $2 billion in economic activity.

The project’s total cost has risen by 9% to $10.7 billion, mainly due to increased network upgrade costs assigned by PJM, the regional electric grid operator. Despite the budget increase, Dominion Energy reports that the impact on consumers will be minimal, with an estimated monthly bill increase of 43 cents for residential customers.
