Early on December 23, 2024, the Comoros-flagged container ship AMNAH tilted at Ambarlı Mardaş Port in Istanbul due to unstable loading. The incident occurred around 4:00 AM, leading to the evacuation of all 15 crew members onboard. Ten were rescued by response teams, while five others reached the shore independently after jumping into the water. One individual sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, floating barriers were placed around the vessel to mitigate the risk of marine pollution. The Maritime Directorate added that salvage operations are being coordinated by the port authority. Investigation into the incident is ongoing, and efforts continue to stabilize the vessel.
The Amnah, built in 1996, has arrived at its destination after departing from Derince Port in İzmit Bay, west of Istanbul. The vessel measures 101 meters in length and 18 meters in width.
