The partnership focuses on ONE’s green shipping service, ONE LEAF+, which incorporates sustainable biofuels for propulsion, leading to a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

Under this agreement, ONE will deploy biofuels, achieving up to an 84% reduction in well-to-wake CO2 emissions compared to the conventional Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO). The ONE LEAF+ service, which stands for Low Emission-Able Freight, provides customers with a flexible way to manage their carbon footprint and minimize environmental impact across the entire supply chain.

The service currently utilizes Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester (UCOME), a biodegradable and non-toxic biofuel derived from food production waste. Customers opting for ONE LEAF+ can select CO2e savings ranging from approximately 10-80%, with independently verified emissions reduction certificates to track their environmental progress.

Gilberto Santos, Senior Vice President of Global Commercial and Service Management at ONE, highlighted the importance of the partnership, saying, “This collaboration with Yusen Logistics is a significant step in expanding green shipping solutions across Asia. Through ONE LEAF+, we’re offering customers the flexibility to reduce their supply chain emissions while maintaining the reliability they expect from ONE. Together, we’re pushing forward on our shared commitment to sustainable shipping and supporting the decarbonization goals of the industry.”

Kohei Omura, Head of Ocean Freight Forwarding Group at Yusen Logistics, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We’re thrilled to be the first logistics company in Asia to sign an agreement with ONE. By using ONE LEAF+, we’re proud to offer our customers more sustainable choices and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.”

In a separate announcement last week, ONE also revealed the naming of ONE Sparkle, the company’s first owned and operated newbuilding container vessel, further emphasizing its commitment to sustainability in the shipping sector.
