Local Odesa publication Dumska reported that the Swiss-owned container ship MSC LEVANTE F had arrived at the port earlier in the day. Details regarding the vessel’s cargo and the damage sustained remain unavailable.

Foreign vessels have previously been affected by Russian attacks on Odesa's port. In October 2024, multiple ships were damaged in separate strikes.

Since July 2023, Russia has targeted port infrastructure and merchant vessels in the Black Sea. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on November 23 at the International Conference on Food Security in Kyiv that 321 port infrastructure facilities and 20 foreign commercial vessels have been damaged.

Ships navigating the Black Sea continue to face security risks, including missile strikes and drifting mines. Ukraine, a key grain exporter, ships approximately six million tons of grain per month through its Black Sea ports.

Following the termination of the Black Sea grain deal by Russia last year, Ukraine established an alternative export corridor. Initially developed as a humanitarian corridor for stranded vessels, it has since become a regular trade route.
