First Nordseecluster Offshore Wind Farm Foundations Arrive in Eemshaven

The first eight monopile foundations for the 1.8GW Nordseecluster offshore wind project have arrived at the Buss Terminal in Eemshaven, Netherlands. These massive structures, averaging 85 meters in length and 1,500 tonnes in weight, were delivered by Dajin Heavy Industry and safely offloaded at the Dutch base port.

Key Milestone for RWE’s German Offshore Wind Project

Developed by RWE, the Nordseecluster will be built in two phases:

  • Nordseecluster A (660MW) – Commissioning in 2027
  • Nordseecluster B (900MW) – Completion by 2029

A total of 45 monopiles will pass through Eemshaven in 2025, including 44 for wind turbines and one for a transformer substation. The V236-15.0 MW wind turbines, supplied by Vestas, will be installed starting in 2026.

Offshore Installation Begins in 2025

From summer 2025, the foundations will be transported 50 kilometers north of Juist for installation. Once fully operational, the Nordseecluster will generate enough green electricity to power 1.6 million homes.

“This is a major milestone for Nordseecluster and the largest wind project currently being built off the German coast,” said Thomas Michel, COO RWE Offshore Wind. He also highlighted Eemshaven’s role in supporting other projects, including Thor (Denmark) and OranjeWind (Netherlands).
