The Rotterdam-Singapore Green & Digital Shipping Corridor is leading the charge in maritime decarbonization and digital transformation since its launch in 2022. This collaboration has brought together 28 partners from across the container shipping value chain, focusing on deploying sustainable fuels and digital solutions to improve efficiency on the 15,000-kilometer shipping route.

The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from large container vessels by 20-30% by 2030, while promoting global standards for efficient port operations and paperless transactions.

Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, emphasized the corridor's progress, stating, “This partnership has made valuable strides in decarbonizing international shipping and improving trade efficiency. However, we have more work ahead, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.”

Key initiatives include testing and scaling up sustainable fuels such as bio- and e-ammonia, methanol, and methane. Working groups have been set up for each fuel type to ensure their availability and affordability for large-scale shipping use.

Since 2022, pilot projects have marked key milestones, including the first successful bunkering of mass-balanced liquefied bio-methane at Rotterdam. A similar trial is planned in Singapore for 2025.
