Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of Legacy C and Ability C, two 1,182-TEU container vessels built by China’s CSSC Wuchang Shipbuilding.

Legacy C, delivered to Greek owner Cosmoship in late 2024, has already been renamed Mild Symphony and is listed in Shanghai Jinjiang’s liner schedules. Market reports indicate that both vessels were sold in an en bloc transaction, though the exact resale price remains undisclosed. However, industry sources suggest Cosmoship likely made a profit over the $24 million per vessel it originally paid in 2022.

With this deal, Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping now operates 52 vessels with a combined capacity of 55,179 TEU, ranking 35th in Alphaliner’s top 100 carriers.

Feeder Market Drives Secondhand Ship Sales

The secondhand feeder vessel market remains active, with buyers from China, Europe, and the Middle East seeking tonnage. MB Shipbrokers recently reported the sale of a Greek-owned 2,800-TEU vessel to an Asian operator, while a European liner acquired two 1,300-TEU vessels built in 2005 and 2007.

The feeder sector is also a key focus in newbuilding discussions, as owners balance investment in both modern secondhand vessels and larger newbuilds.
