WISTA International to Hold Historic Mid-Term Meeting & Sustainability Conference in India
For the first time, the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) International Board will hold its mid-term meeting in India, marking a milestone in the organization’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and leadership in global maritime trade.
To celebrate this occasion, WISTA India is organizing its first WISTA International EXCO Conference, titled "Navigating Change: The Future of Sustainable Shipping," on April 9, 2024. This high-profile event will bring together global leaders, innovators, and professionals to discuss sustainability challenges and opportunities in the maritime sector.
India’s Role in Green Shipping
WISTA India President Summit Cheema Sharma highlighted India’s leadership in sustainable shipping, citing initiatives such as the National Biofuel Policy and Methanol Policy. She also mentioned the country's plans for a Maritime Development Fund to support green vessel manufacturing and eco-friendly port development.
"India is rapidly transitioning to sustainable shipping through renewable energy and alternative fuels. Hosting this event here is a privilege and an opportunity to drive meaningful change," Sharma stated.

WISTA International President Elpi Petraki emphasized the importance of hosting the board meeting in India, calling it a "vibrant maritime hub." She noted that the event underscores WISTA’s commitment to promoting women’s leadership and fostering a more inclusive industry.
