In 2024, Volga Shipping became one of the first companies in Russia to sign an agreement with Rostransnadzor, focusing on collaboration to monitor licensed activities related to the transportation and transshipment of hazardous materials. The shift to a lower risk category comes after Rostransnadzor confirmed that the company had successfully implemented a series of safety measures. This was reflected in a significant reduction in the number of accidents and port state control detentions involving Volga Shipping vessels.

Sergey Veselkov, Director for Navigation Safety at Volga Shipping, highlighted that the safety improvements were the result of comprehensive internal audits, staff training, post-accident investigations, and a thorough analysis of accident causes. As a result, Volga Shipping has introduced corrective actions to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents and made revisions to its safety management system.
