The multi-purpose vessel, PRIMA VERDE, owned by Daishin Shipping Co., Ltd., was constructed at Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd. and delivered on January 30, 2025.
The project was a collaboration between Daishin Shipping, MOL Drybulk, Ltd., and MOL Techno-Trade, which acted as the sales agent for ECONOWIND. MOL Techno-Trade oversaw the installation and integration of the technology in the Japanese market.
PRIMA VERDE is equipped with two VentoFoil units. These devices, known as suction wings, use boundary layer suction to streamline airflow and improve propulsion efficiency. The design allows for easy installation and relocation with minimal impact on deck space.
The wind-assisted propulsion system is expected to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 2% on the vessel’s operational route. Actual savings may vary depending on route conditions.
This installation supports Daishin Shipping and MOL Drybulk’s ongoing efforts to lower their environmental impact. MOL Techno-Trade aims to further promote wind propulsion technology in Japan following this initial deployment.
