The Liberian-flagged Eleen Armonia, owned by the Bulgarian shipping company Eleen Marine, was en route from Port Klang, Malaysia, to Durban, South Africa, when its crew spotted the Indonesian fishing vessel Hasil Abadi 28 approximately 800 kilometers southeast of Sri Lanka. The fishing vessel's stern was engulfed in flames, prompting its crew to move to the bow as the fire spread.
The Eleen Armonia quickly positioned itself alongside the burning vessel and attempted to douse the flames using its onboard hoses, but was unsuccessful in extinguishing the fire.
Realizing that the blaze could not be controlled, the Eleen Armonia crew evacuated the fishermen, providing them with food and medical care. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
The rescued crew members were later transferred to another Indonesian fishing vessel, which had been diverted to the area to assist. The Eleen Armonia remained on site for nearly 15 hours, awaiting the arrival of the other vessel.
