Spanish energy company Moeve has signed a contract with RFOcean to purchase a series of 6,600 dwt chemical tankers currently being built in China.
RFOcean, led by Frederik Rye-Florentz and already operating a fleet of 13 chemical tankers, has eight next-generation vessels under construction at Wuhu Shipyard. These newbuilds are expected to join the market in 2025 and 2026.
The tankers will feature stainless steel cargo tanks and are designed with multi-fuel propulsion systems. They can run on biofuels and are built to allow future upgrades to fuel cells or battery-powered generators.
Moeve mentioned that these vessels are about 30% more fuel efficient than the older models.
Moeve, which was formerly known as Cepsa, stated that the deal aligns with its commitment to cleaner energy solutions as part of the World Economic Forum’s First Movers Coalition.
Alice Acuña, executive vice president of trading at Moeve, noted that these fuel-flexible vessels are central to the company’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and to offer cleaner marine solutions in the coming decade.
