Germany's KfW IPEX-Bank is providing support of approximately €26 million ($27.3 million) for the construction of two 7,700 DWT general cargo vessels at Thecla Bodewes Shipyard.
The vessels, named the Labrax series, will feature a modern diesel-electric propulsion system with the option to convert the engines to CO2-neutral fuels in the future.
Once delivered in 2026, the newbuilds will be deployed on short sea routes within Europe.
Carisbrooke operates a fleet of around 20 bulk and multipurpose vessels. The family-owned shipping company placed an order for a Labrax 7,280 DWT newbuild at Thecla Bodewes Shipyard in September 2023.
Earlier this month, the German financial institution also emerged as a backer for Hapag-Lloyd's three new 9,200 TEU vessels, valued at approximately $281 million.
