Holland Shipyard Delivers First Cable Recovery Vessel for Hudig & Veder

Holland Shipyard Group has delivered the cable recovery vessel Maasvliet to Hudig & Veder, a shipping company based in the Netherlands.

The vessel will be operated by Hartel Shipping and chartered by Subsea Environmental Services for subsea cable retrieval and recycling projects.

The Maasvliet is the first of five CIP3800 vessels being built for Hudig & Veder, with the next two vessels expected to be delivered in 2025. The first three ships in this series will be operated by Hartel Shipping. Designed with future-fuel-ready capabilities, these vessels can be converted to run on alternative fuels in the future.

The 89.43-meter-long Maasvliet was launched on January 11 at a shipyard in Nantong, China, and transported to Rotterdam alongside its sister vessel Rijnvliet. Final outfitting and commissioning were completed at Holland Shipyard Group’s facility in Hardinxveld, Giesendam before the vessel was delivered to Hartel Shipping later that month.

The vessel is equipped with diesel-electric propulsion and designed for cable recovery and transport, supporting cable decommissioning and repurposing projects. It is part of Hartel Shipping’s fleet modernization program and includes features for potential hybrid battery integration to enhance environmental performance.

The Rijnvliet is expected to enter service in the second quarter of 2025.
